(p. 415):

If you cut 1 square out of each corner and fold to make an open box, it will hold 32 cm3.
If you cut squares that are 2 by 2 out of each corner and fold to make an open box, it will hold 24 cm3.

Sample response:

By having a larger square cut out of the corner, the base becomes much smaller. It goes from 8 by 4 to only 6 by 2. The cut in size is not made up for by having 2 layers.
